Americanisms: Color and Gesture in the Works of The Eight
September 18 – December 13, 2015
On February 3, 1908 an exhibition of works by a group of New York painters later known as “The Eight” opened at a Manhattan gallery. The artists had never exhibited together before, and their works differed greatly from those that the art-going public were accustomed to seeing. Americanisms brings together works by these eight artists again, pairing works from the Forsyth’s Runyon Collection with those borrowed from seven well-known U.S. museums.
