Major/Essential Duties of Job: This position is responsible for leading, directing and managing the Memorial Student Center Forsyth Center Galleries. The person in this position will be responsible for administration, personnel recommendations, creation of exhibitions from Collections ($20.5M) and lent artwork (c. $3.5M), audience development, and acquisition of art objects, funding, and other resources. The Associate Director liaises with, and develops new relationships with: universities, museums, and other academia; art collectors; Former Students and other significant supporters; and maintains an active scholarly presence and gives presentations at national, and international art and art glass academic and museum entities. Oversees advisement of MSC Visual Arts and docent program. Serves on the President's Advisory Committee on Arts Policy, the Programs Committee, Academy for Performing and Visual Arts, and other university and national arts organizations.

Curatorial: Selects, designs, curates, schedules and installs exhibitions for the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries. Performs curatorial research on the Runyon Collections and works with marketing staff in the production of promotional material. Administration: This position will have a dual reporting relationship and will report directly to the UART Department Head for departmental initiatives and to the MSC Director for issues related to the Runyon Collections. Works with the UART Director and MSC Director to establish and implement strategic planning, including long- and short-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement. Develops the annual Forsyth Center Galleries budget for approval of the Runyon Committee and is responsible for managing it. Oversight responsibility for use of Forsyth Center Galleries' physical plant for events.

Supervision: Supervises the Forsyth Center Galleries' Collection Manager, and the Museum Education Coordinator/Visual Arts Committee Advisor. Oversight responsibility for all departmental museum education efforts. Works with Museum Education Coordinator in the training of docents and gives tours of the Forsyth Center Galleries' collections as needed.

Resource Acquisition: Develops and maintains relationships with art collectors, former students, and private art associations related to the Runyon Collections areas of interest. Evaluates potential donations of art, money, and other resources and makes recommendations to the Runyon Art Committee regarding acceptance. (The Forsyth Center Galleries co-manages and houses the American Cut Glass Association's National Collection) Assists with development efforts for University Art Galleries.

Representation: Represents the department and the Forsyth Center Galleries to the media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, and/or the general public. Represents the Forsyth Center Galleries on the President's Advisory Committee on Art Policy. Serves on other university committees as appointed. Represents the Department at the Division of Student Affairs Vice President's Meeting when the University Arts Director is unable to attend. May organize and conduct national and international art and art glass travel experiences for students, art collectors, and staff. Researches, selects, and acquires artwork for Class of 1985 Endowed Collection in conjunction with Class Agents and Association of Former Students. Other duties as required.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Art History, Arts Administration, or fields closely related to Art History or Arts Administration. Seven (7) or more years in Senior Museum, or University Arts Administrator, or faculty position. Five (5) years experience with a Master's Degree. Demonstrable knowledge of decorative arts, fine arts, museum administration, curating exhibitions, audience development and resource acquisition. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Education and Experience Certification or graduate degree in Business or Arts Administration. 10 years in Senior Museum, or University Arts Administrator, or Faculty position. Specialization in American and European Art Glass

Special Instructions to Applicants: Must be willing to work nights, weekends, high energy level required, must be comfortable in student center setting. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000
