Man’s Best Friend: Dogs in Art

Jan. 25–March 24, 2024

This exhibition explores how dogs have been depicted in art from the mid 19th century to the end of the 20th century. Featuring paintings of stately hunting dogs and other working dogs to warmer depictions of dogs patiently awaiting the arrival of their master.

The Toll of Texas Roads on Turtles and Snakes

With photographs, art, and science, viewers are invited to appreciate the beauty and diversity of reptiles in Texas, to see how delicate reptile bodies are, and to learn how roads imperil so many.

The Art of Texas State Parks

March 21–May 26, 2024

In celebration of 100 years, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department commissioned 30 Texas artists to depict scenes from parks, natural areas and historic sites in the state park system. The selections on view are as varied as the parks themselves.

Recently, the Forsyth took the opportunity to use spectral photography—including Ultra-Violet Florescence, Infrared, and Ultra-Violet Reflectance—to learn more about what is going on below the surface of a select group of paintings in the collection.

The Wit & Whimsy of Victorian Majolica

Majolica was the perfect ceramic for the Victorian era. Its rich colors, eclectic mix of styles, and dramatic or whimsical modeling appealed to the 19th-century audience, which reveled in decorative arts that displayed technical skill and elaborate design.
