Inspired Design: The Glass of Frederick Carder

Inspired Design: The Glass of Frederick Carder, runs from May 22 through September 9 and features works from the Forsyth’s Runyon Collection, showcasing prime examples of decorative art from one of the most prolific and well-known glass designers of the late 19th and early 20th century. Frederick Carder (1863-1963) first made his mark as an inexhaustible designer for the English firm of Stevens & Williams, where during his 22-year tenure he worked with his mentor John Northwood I to create over 23,500 designs. He then moved across the Atlantic, co-founding Steuben Glass Works in Corning, New York with Thomas G. Hawkes and serving as the firm’s chief designer. There he continued designing at a rate that seems impossible to fathom, creating thousands of shapes and decorative elements that are attributed to him today.
