Comic Strip

Exhibit: Beyond Words: Visual Narratives from the Block Book to the Graphic Novel

We often think of the comic strip as a rather recent invention, but sequential storytelling began in the Middle Ages, when book printers used carved wooden blocks to stamp words and images onto the page. See visual storytelling through woodcuts, engravings, comic strips, and graphic novels.
